With a cool-laid-back southwest demeanor,
El Paso, TX. Native Joe Hernandez (A.K.A Joseph Black) states,
“It’s the music that drives your soul, but
it’s the soul that drives the music” J.H.
In the realms of sight and sound, it’s the connection
between the two that go hand in hand. The collaboration of
beats, hooks and melodies that lead to the ultimate self-expression
through music, has always influenced the drive and passion
for the arts. Prior to evolving into the musical side of things,
Joseph Black’s passion for photography was the starting
point in which the journey of becoming a singer songwriter
would begin. By the age of 19, many opportunities had derived
as a photographer when Joe began to photograph many amazing
shows and high profile acts such as Blind Melon, White Zombie,
The Cranberries, Radiohead, 300 Foot Jesus, 311, Sponge, The
Toadies and many more to say the least. The excitement of
maintaining “the high” while shooting, as well
as the freedom of rubbing shoulders with many great artists
had always been sought through a lens. Though the love of
the lens has not faded, it was these experiences which would
lead to the inevitable! Influential bands such as The Black
Crows, Santana, Gypsy Kings, Pearl Jam, Alice and Chains,
U2, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. have stood as a cornerstone
in the melodies and lyrics of Joe’s music. Although,
many bands tend to either evolve or dissolve, the quest and
thirst for rock remains the same in the soul of Joseph Black
and his music.
“I’m inspired by those who live out their
dreams! To see good friends like Cedric Bixler Zavala of “The
Mars Volta” and Oguer O’con of “Slightly
Stoopid” walk to the beat of their own drum, encourages
me to continue to walk to the beat of mine!”
